Let it snow! And other lateral cognitions
I sincerely adore the first snow after Thanksgiving--it really puts me in the holiday mood. Too bad I have a twenty-five page paper due this week or I'd be tempted to go gift shopping.

Isn't it too bad the lift in spirits that we feel (as the seasons change) is coopted by crass commercialism? Which makes me think maybe I shouldn't run those little google ads on my blog… but then again, this is America, the grand-daddy of free enterprise, and we are all so used to ignoring inline advertising anyway, what could it hurt?
I will NOT be bummed out by the ethical dilemma--I will regard this as an opportunity to practice the art of compromising with reality.
Yeah, that's the ticket…
…besides, it's so darned beautiful today, here in the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

I want so much to be in NM, Richard, that your photos actually hurt. Lovely, lovely. If you're looking to add a few links to other writers, here's my blog:

Come up and see me sometime. ;-)
Hi Ginger! The mountains never fail to make my day. I'd love to post your blog in here--thanks!
Great photos, Richard. What's your paper on? I bet you're doing something really enviable like, I don't know, devoting all your time to writing, thinking about writing, writing about writing... Pity us poor sods who have compromised so much with consumerism we have grubby jobs!
(And let me tell you they don't get much more compromised, or grubby than mine!)
Roger--
Like you, I have a day job--albeit, in a library, but a grubby job nonetheless! My paper is rather prosaic this time, dealing with Information Technology Planning. (I'm taking business classes towards a second master's degree.) Yikes! Did I say that out loud? But, I still have SOME time to write fiction, thank goodness.
Hello, Richard..
Nice blog you've begun here. The views in your photos are lovely and make me want to visit Carlsbad again so badly I can taste it.
All the best,
Sherry

Great photos. I saw you blog listed on Zoetrope (Dysfunction Junction) message board.
Hi Sherry--it's great to see you here. I still haven't been down to Carlsbad yet. But I visited your blog today. Very cool!
Hi Trish! I went to see your blog today, too, and enjoyed your liberalchickness very much!
Thank you, Richard.
Go to Carlsbad. Just go. You'll not be sorry.
We stayed in a log cabin, hiked every trail, took in excess of five hundred photos, roasted marshmellows over bonfires, sang and danced to Native American music, and, and, and..
Just go, Richard. It's worth any amount of time invested.
Sherry
Mmmmm… toasty marshmallows. Just add a piece of chocolate and a graham cracker, and I'd ask for s'more.
S'mores! My daughter's favorite, but too sweet for me. I prefer simple 'crispy on the outside, melted on the inside' marshmellows on a stick. Or a saltine cracker, of course.
Where's my blog link, hmm? Yours is on mine.
Cheers,
Sherry
Thanks for linking me, too!
Hey Richard,
Thanks for stopping by Yada Feast. Satori Kick is rocking, and once I get my blog links back up, I'll be sure to add you. I had a weird glitch that caused havoc with the fonts, so I had to take them down. BUT I WILL get them back and functioning again, soon.
I'll be back!
All the Best,
Fran
So gorgeous! I love the Sangre de Cristo.
Fran--
Sorry to hear about your glitches but I love your blog anyway! Good to see you here!
Hello Myf,
I'm glad you came over to help me launch Satori Kick. This blogging thing could be quite addictive, I'm discovering. It's a good way to let off steam, too.
Hi Richard, picking up from your last comment, working in a library isn't grubby - it's noble! I don't know anything about Information Technology Planning except that it sounds very impressive and of the future. Speaking of the future, my son, who's six, just, this morning announced, 'In the future everyone wears odd socks.' I have to say, this was prompted by the fact he was pushing to wear odd socks himself, but I was impressed by his use of the present tense. It made it sound so much more authoritative, like he'd actually been to the future and had seen the odd socks for himself.
Your son IS the future, Roger. Maybe it's time for him to read A Wrinkle in Time
I forgot to mention that I met Madeleine L'Engle in 1989 when I put together a large children's book exhibition at the University of Iowa's Main Library. A wonderful person--she signed hundreds of books that day.
